Opening up a piece of history.

Searsburg, Vermont.

An old red farmhouse way up on the side of a mountain of southern Vermont was just waiting for us to arrive with a vision to transform the cold, (literally) dark space into a modern second home retreat. At an elevation of 2,200 feet above sea level, the primary forms of transportation in this region are skis and snowmobiles and it was our aim to celebrate the quiet and nature-focused lifestyle. The front elevation of the house still had many original details in the windows and siding and we worked to preserve and restore the historic charm of this north elevation. At the rear, and south facade, we completely opened up the existing walls to provide a true connection between the the indoors/ outdoors. Large picture windows and sliding glass doors entertain views out to the rear garden and forest beyond.

MAKING PLACES TO GATHER. Pool table Room connects to kitchen.

Cathedral Ceiling in living and dining spaces for large groups to gather.

MIXING THE OLD WITH THE NEW. Original, restored windows at the front.

Large new sliding doors and windows at the rear. ORIGINAL EXPOSED TIMBER FRAMING.

Original House dates to 1850.

Bennington County.
